It's all over folks.

That's it, it's gone. History. No more. My run is at an end.

This morning I picked up my first flat tyre in 15,773km. :(

Now I have to go right back to the start.

What do you use for tires?

Chris L 07-30-04 06:44 PM

Geax Evolution 26x1.9". My tyres see a bit of dirt, not to mention the goat tracks that pass for "roads" in Queensland.

Refresh our memories: didn't you just recently mention something about not having flats in a long time?

Rural Roadie 07-30-04 09:03 PM

Well you have made up for it with other bad luck, I'dd rather have the flats!

Yeah, I posted a "gloat" thread when I hit 15,000. Maybe that was my mistake?

This week I have broken a $920 camera, a $170 pair of sunglasses, and a $150 watch. Now I've had a flat, too! I thought it was only supposed to happen in threes.

Isn't this one of events listed in Revelations as a sign of the coming Apocalypse?

The irony will be that you'll get 3 more flats over the next 2 weeks then not another for the next 7 years.

You have jinxed me also. I broke my back axle yesterday. The wheel held on with the quick release arrangement till I went climbing a hill. The f**cing wheel jammed against the fork. Good trick that to practice stands. Pedalling a granny gear and running beside the bike is tiring.

Then I couldn't get a replacement. I ended up getting a new wheel.

I'm very sorry to hear about your camera. Hopefully you can get it replaced so that we can be regaled with some more of your fabulous shots of your back garden

Never spend more than $10 on sunglasses or $50 on a watch.

now that i have been updated on this feat, was it a forced error (rock, pebble, pothole) or an unforced error (simple giving out) >> did you ever replace your inner tube or did those inner tubes last the entire time?

This approach works for some, but I don't buy into it. If I buy cheap sunglasses and watches, I will kill them through heavy usage enough times over that in the long run good sunglasses and watches are worth it. I have my Oakleys and my Swatch and both refuse to die.

I'm curious, man - what camera did you break?

Same inner tubes the entire time. It was a bit of glass that got stuck in the tyre that eventually caused the problem. Given that it happened at Austinville, one of the few places around here where broken glass is scarce, I'd guess that the glass got wedged in there and worked it's way through over 20km or so.
