Buying a "big" bike in Japan
Hello. I have a nephew who is Japan-bound for a 2-year LDS Church mission.
His momma (my sister) has heard that it's difficult to find big-size bikes in Japan, and that it's also prohibitively expensive to ship a bike over, after import duties, etc. (He's a strapping young lad - 6'2" or so, and maybe 200 lbs., and athletic.)
His riding will be mostly just transportation; I'm thinking if he can find a big-enough bike, it should last him for 2 years. (And if it needs maintenance, I'm assuming repair parts are available in the country that builds Shimano components.)
Can anybody shed any light on the topic? I'd be very appreciative.

You know, I think Ritchey made a folding bike that was the size of a normal roadstyle bike. It isn't small like other folders. He might be able to get a case for it, and bring it as luggage. I would have to say it would probably be difficult to find a bike for a 6'2" gentleman in Japan. As for import duties, I have no clue.
