What would you expect from a website?

OK so I am going to make a proposal to a guy down the line for me to make him a website, in return for a few $$$ or some parts and labour. He has created a new hub or something, and there is very little NZ market here. So he wants to go international. I am thinking of creating a few template sites to show him with my proposal. What aspects would you guys expect to see? It is not going to be super flash, just effective.

Cheers,
Brendon
