ideas for hanging a bike from a railing / balcony?

my girlfriend was recently gracious enough to let me bring another bike into our smallish apartment.
we have a balcony in the bedroom that overlooks the den area (it's an odd setup) with a ~1.5'' thick wood railing.
i was thinking of hanging my bike off the other side of the railing; the bike would essentially disappear when not in use.

anyone know of anything that might work? i'm looking around home depot for some kinda J-shaped hook that i could slip over the railing, hang the bike by the top tube. it would have to be a few inches out to accomodate the handlebars.

whatchu think?

Great idea. I'd buy some L shaped padded ladder/gear hangers from Home Depot or Lowe's. I have some on the side of my garage for my sailboat's mast and my extension ladder. You could screw them in and throw your bike right over.

Assuming that this is a house and not an apt or condo. If it is, well... approval is another hurdle.

Look into planter brackets for railings.

Good idea but you'll have to hang the bike about 12" or more out away from the balcony. Otherwise the handlebars will hit the railing or wall below the balcony.
