Kona Dew Drop vs. Kona Jake
Kona Dew Drop vs. Kona Jake?
Hello,
Recently there is a rash of discounts on 09 model bicycles at my LBS. I am interested in getting one of these. I rode the Jake before and love everything about it but the cantilever brakes. I currently ride a disc equipped hardtail and the stopping power>>> Jake's cantis. The Jake didn't instill confident stops that I enjoy with my current disc-hardtail. So Mr. LBS showed me the Dew Drop which looks like a Jake but has disc-brakes. However the components are not as good as the Tiagra group that the Jake comes with. Therefore it is cheaper. While I like the confident stops that disc-brakes provide, I don't think rear disc is necessary for a commuter bike. It will also affect rack and fender mounts too.
I know some folks here are Jake riders and I've read their reviews which has been glowing. Any Dew Drop riders to comment?
And alas, will these bikes be significantly faster than my hardtail that is currently equipped with slicks?
My commute includes road, MUP and 50% gravel. It also rains alot.
Sorry for the cross-post, hoping to get more input.

Not going to knock either bikes but Kona bikes are not what they used to be. They seem to be a bit on the heavy side in comparison to others and the spec to price does not seem to be right. Have a look at a couple of similar bikes in other brands to see what else is about.
And I do have Kona and I will not get rid of it. Kona Explosif and it is a 92 model I bought new in 93. A Good bike when bought and a good bike now- Just haven't replaced it with another Kona as I felt that they were not the bikes they used to be.
