What kind of bikes do those bike taxi people have?

My mom and me got on one of those bike taxi's and he didnt have any trouble taking us to our destination. He probably had a load of around 350 pounds and he went up a hill with no problem. Do you think he had a electric bike or was that him pedaling us? What kind of bike do you have to get to haul that much weight?

They make regular pedicabs, normally with two wheels in back and one in front. They also make pedicab trailers which are used behind a regular bicycle. The regular pedicabs are more stylish and preferred, the trailer versions are cheaper.

New pedicabs normally come with 21 speed gearing. They do have electric assist as an option. Which was used in your case, I don't know.

I think part of the trick of using one would be good gearing, but part of it is just going to be a good set of legs and lungs to make it go. And if a mountain bike has adequate gearing to get the bike and rider up a 30% grade, then it could get a pretty good load up a 10% grade.

^This.

Pedicabs have very low gearing designed for hauling weight. In addition, the operator spends many hours a day pedaling this weight around and is generally in pretty good shape.
