Help me choose between Cannondale Quick 5, 7.3 FX, and Giant Rapid 3!!!

I'm looking to get my husband a fitness bike for Christmas at the entry level. He has wanted a nice bike for years (he just wants to be a casual rider) and these are his priorities:
- riding for fitness
- commuting to work and around town
- trail riding on paved trails

He's 6'2- 6'3 and about 225. I've seen three possible bikes at local bike shops here in Florida, and I'd love some advice on which you all think is the best bike, and also which is the best deal.

1) Giant Rapid 3 (2010): on sale for $549.99
2) Cannondale Quick 5: $576
3) 7.3 FX: $580

Any thoughts would be SO appreciated. If you have suggestions for other bikes in the same price range, that would be great too. Thanks!!

All 3 bikes are good but one test will tell if it's the right bike for him. Get him to test ride and he will will know what he wants to ride.

I am happy to know you love your hubby so much you're getting a bike for him, seriously. The Cannandale has a CF fork and almost identicle to the FX,the Giant has higher gearing so climling may be a problem, for the price you listed, the cannondale looks right,my 5 cents ( inflation ).

I have another bike for you to consider -- a Jamis Coda ($550). This is a GREAT bike. If I was in the market for a flat bar road bike, I'd get something in the Jamis Coda series. They sell a lot of these at my favorite bike shop.

I purchased a Cannondale Quick 5 last summer and put about 1000 miles on it. I have enjoyed riding it as a bike to get back into cycling. The only problem that I had was breaking spokes on the rear wheel. I'm 6'4" about 210 and average about 15 mph on the hilly terrain around my home. After the third broken spoke, the lbs relaced the wheel with slightly heavier gauge spokes.

I might suggest you read and post questions in the Hybrid Forum. A hybrid sounds like what would fit the bill for the type of riding you've described.

Happy cycling!
