The fire bugs got owned! The fire at Nerang was somehow out by the Sunday morning, and the one at Gilston was the smaller of the two. Myself and a friend of mine, Martin, headed down to the Tweed Valley for a century, and the Gilston fire couldn't get us with any smoke because there was the small matter of Springbrook in the way.

We had a classic ride on the dirt roads behind Murwillumbah, with the return through the rainforest of Urliup, and a beautiful lunch at Uki. The only thing of note was the first magpie attack of the year. There were two, they went after me first, I ducked the initial attack before positioning my water bottle just so and saying "go on, try it again", so they went after Martin instead. I think it's fair game because he made me lead the way into that brutal westerly that sprung up around Chillingham. I'm sure he'll get me back for that one in the near future, however.

Uh wow, I just biked through yesterdays torrential downpour in Richmond Hill/Toronto, that was THE best ride besides getting soaked to the boot.

Have to tell you I'm as jealous as hell.

The only water I get to bike through is my own sweat in the 90 to 100 plus days!!!
