Just picked up a slightly used (ridden once!) '09 Motobecane Fantom CX -- for $400 -- that was traded in at LBS. According to Performance Bike, a new Ritchey carbon fork weighs about 1.5 lbs. The LBS owner -- someone I view as an expert -- thought a good carbon fork would reduce the weight by about 1 lb. So extrapolating here the stock cromo fork probably weighs about 2.5 lbs. The bike -- 52 cm -- weighed 24 lbs.......so changing out the fork for the Ritchey cross fork would cost $250+ and the bike would then weigh around 23 lbs.......kind of a big hit to save a pound and a little better damping.
