should i ride??

just finished my winter build, except for bar tape.

I have about an hour of daylight left (which is plenty, would just go to the park and do a lap or 2) but it is only 35 degrees out!

I'm debating putting the rack on the car, loading the bike, riding the bike but then I will have a dirty bike and go through the trouble for a 10 minute ride.

Is it worth it? What would you do?

this is what 50% of my brain is saying.

the other 50% wants a victory lap! times like this, I wish I lived in a quieter street in a residential neighborhood, then there would be no debate.

nah, I wimped out. The combination of the cold, nearing dusk, and the thought of having to clean my bike after a short ride turned me away. We have some unseasonably warm weather predicted in the coming days so I might be able to sneak a ride one day if the roads dry up a little bit.

What good is a winter bike you refuse to ride because it's cold and dark out?!

Also...

Ha.... I misunderstood too. And I was thinking, what good is a winter bike that you don't want to get dirty?

34 and sunny on Saturday, I might tough it out after work, bundle up, and take it for a rip. I won't expect to put too many miles on it but enough to at least say I got to ride it and take it through the gears a little bit!

You disqualified yourself when you whined about getting the bike dirty. It's a BIKE, a piece of outdoor equipment. It's going to get dirty. Plus 35 degrees isn't cold enough to worry about. Put on a jacket.
When I built up my Atlantis four or five years ago, I was pretty pumped because it was the first "real" bike I'd owned--I'd ridden for 30 years on stuff I'd salvaged. or bought used, or compromised on in some other way. The Atlantis was my midlife crisis, and I got exactly what I wanted. I finished the assembly (in my unheated shed/shop at about 11 p.m. in February, and I was eager to ride. It was 25 degrees, snowing lightly, but the roads were dry. I was wearing jeans, Uggs and a T-shirt from Mr. Whippy's Drive In in Chincoteague, Va (I live in Nevada). My wife was already asleep, and I didn't want to disturb her getting a jacket from my closet, so I just hopped on and did a quick six-mile loop from my house. It was cold.
