Male Parts Issue

OK, this is an awkward one, but do take it seriously. When riding my road bike, my Male Member tends to sort of go inside itself. It is not painful at all, but just extremely uncomfortable. I am not a small fellow (nor am I inordinately well-endowed), but this happens with every ride. Often, I can manually redirect it to the side, but it usually ends up back in the uncomfortable position before too long, particularly if I have to stop and take off, again.

Some years back, a friend of mine (mountain biker) approached me with the same issue, wondering if there were some type of genital piercing one could get to prevent/deter this from occurring (body piercing was my line of work at the time). While I do not think a piercing is the best remedy, his mention of it suggests that we are definitely not alone with this.

Is this common? Is there an easy remedy? I certainly know of all the know of all the prostate/numbness issues for males in regard to improper seat type/position, but this really has nothing to do with that.

Thoughts?

Get some bike shorts and tuck the parts up. Wear regular shorts over them if you're self-conscious.

Are you a psycho-rider doing crazy stunts on your bike? If so - you've probably scared the poor thing and it's trying to protect itself.

Bicycle shorts are good, but any brief will cradle as needed. Just make sure to adjust up before securing with tight material.

There's also the bike shorts with spandex and a chamois on the inside and normal-ish looking sports shorts on the outside.

If you're going to wear bike shorts then a suspensory is better than any kind of underwear (nothing to chafe in the seating area)

Wow, fast feedback; thanX, all. Yes, I wear pretty decent bike shorts, but I could definitely upgrade. I've just been going to the side; I did try pointing up, but realized it was a bit visually odd, so did not try riding like that. Really, I have little concern on that (how it looks) - I am in black shorts, so it is not as obvious as the Polish Cycling Team in red (yes, that was a grand pic ). I see little need for a suspensory, since I wear nothing under them. I am going to get a better pair of shorts this week, as well as some Butt'r.

Butt'r is water soluable. As soon as you start sweating it will dissolve and there will be nothing there to protect you. When I figured that out I was pissed. Why would any embrocation product be that soluable? It isn't going to help if it dissolves into your sweat within the first few minutes of your ride.

Don't worry about it, it's simply a matter of your body compensating for the increased blood demand elsewhere; notice it doesn't happen when you're NOT riding?

Ka - Heh, I'm not remotely overweight. I'm like 5' 11" and 160lbs.
Jude - The Saddle is just the standard one that came on my Masi (I can look up the exact model). It has a tiny indent for the artery/prostate purpose, but it is not fully cut-out.
DX- I am not really concerned about long-term issues. "Worry" is not the issue; it is just friggin uncomfortable. In truth, I can't ride like that... it is too distracting and awkward, so I am forced to adjust while going down the road (and then it is usually good until the next stop, at which point I take off and have to go through it again).

It may be worth noting my riding attire as of late: It is not very cold here, but I do night rides, so I've been wearing decent bike shorts and then long running pants over those (the kind that are relatively tight and taper down with your leg). However, this happens when just wearing the shorts, as well.

Per suggestions here, I'm still going to try riding ummm, "up." However, I tweaked my knee on the last ride and am waiting one more day before getting back on.

When I was doing Tae Kwon Do regularly I would wear compression shorts. And ... I would never wear a cup. I can tell you how many times I was kicked in the groin, not one was a direct hit and the compression kept everything tight.

So yes, compression shorts (bike shorts).

Yes, I forgot to post here again. I got a good pair of Pearl Izumi shorts and all is good. I took a couple long rides (one of which was in colder rain, so it is not an issue with the cold), and the parts were kept in place with none of the aforementioned inside-out occurrence. Thanx, all, for your feedback.

Good bicycle shorts plus try standing and pedaling for about ten seconds every ten minutes or so.

I had it happen once. The Unit had pulled back in as if I weren't circumcised. It was cold that day, so I'm sure that was a factor. I had to check why I was strangely numb, but no damage done. Change your positioning and it probably won't happen again.

This post reminds me of that Seinfeld episode...

George: Elaine! Do women know about shrinkage?
Elaine: You mean like laundry?
Jerry: Like when a man goes swimming… afterwards…
Elaine: It shrinks?!
Jerry: Like a frightened turtle.
Elaine: Why does it shrink?
George: It just does.
Elaine: I don’t know how you guys walk around with those things.

Please stop. We're trying to be serious!

(but Shimagnolo is totally right- the visual is pretty obvious!)

Butter is NOT water-soluble. The fats and oils float on water.

Soaking the genitals in an ice-pack will make your problem wither away.

Had this happen to me, and the standing up more often helped a lot. Also only happens in the cold. I had to stand up while riding, get my hand down there (when there are no cars or people around) and peel it back out. I think it has something to do with sitting on the thin bike seat.

My parts seem to do the opposite, esp. when I'm overhydrated. Or really enjoying the route.
