i have a specialized langster fixie. its an alum. track frame with a straight blade alum. fork with rake of +/- 35mm. I only ride this on the road and would like to soften the ride up a bit. I was wondering if a switch to a standard typle road fork with a longer rake, say around 43-45 mm would be a viable solution. I realize this change would alter the handling, but how much of a difference would there be? My local bike shop doesn't have an old fork hanging around that I could try out. Another possibility would be going to a carbon fork, but thats likely to be a bit more cash. Anyone ever done a similar switch?

Increasing the rake would reduce the trail and make the steering noticibly more twitchy. However if the crown to dropout length were much bigger it would reduce the steerer angle and increase the trail.
