Hey, i bought a specialized allez sport triple for 500 bucks, and im wondering who had received the better end of the deal.
The bike has:
a1 aluminum frame
FACT carbon fork
SORA breaks/shifter
Tiagra back, Sora front derailleurs
Alex rim Globes
and everything else is standard i suppose.
so tell me what you think, thanks!

The age of the bike is not that big of a deal. One thing is there much wear on it? Most components on bikes will last well over 20,000 miles if given reasonable maintenance. Most used bikes have something under 2,000 miles on them. So you bike probably has no significant wear. The only source of problem would be corrosion from poor storage conditions.
Tiagra and Soro are not great components. But they are perfectly serviceable and functional. They should give you years of reliable service for recreational riding.
The major thing is does the bike fit? A pair of shoes is not a "good buy" unless it fits. Bikes are the same. You might take it to the LBS for an inspection and have the fit tweaked for you. Or you could find a knowledgeable friend to do that for virtually nothing.
If the bike is not in horrendous shape and it fits, you got a pretty good deal.

How about you post a picture of it. Based off not much info, I'd would think you could have gotten a better deal. I bought a 2006 Specialized Roubaix Comp for $900 and it's much nicer of a bike. Even then I didn't think I did especially well.

well, it fits pretty nice. the man i bought it from was extremely knowledgeable about the bikes, and he had a slightly larger frame for me to try as well. But for my first bike, i think i made the right choice.

If it's Sora equipped, then it's not '06. I have an '06 Sport w/triple and it's Tiagra/105. The model has been downgraded each year since with an increase in price to account for a screwed up economy. I am original owner of mine and I paid $799 when new. I love the frame, the rest has been upgraded over the years. $500 isn't horrible, but I'm not sure it's really a 'deal'. If it's in good condition, then I'd call it a wash. --Ryan
