Should I get slick tires?

I have a trek 3700 which I ride mostly for exercise, quite a bit on both dirt and paved roads. I also enjoy riding trails on the weekends. I have signed up for a 30 mile road ride (and would like to find some more). Is it worthwhile to get slick tires for a ride that long (or short, however you look at it)? How much of a PITA is it to switch tires?

For road I would recommend slicks or a road type tread. For hard packed dirt a road tread is OK.

Look into something like the Specialized Crossroads ex tire - flat center tread is good for road and sides have knobs for traction in grass, loose dirt. They are kina heavy, but a good compromise if you don't want to switch tires much. However either always on pavement alterating (say on weekends) always on rough dirt/mud, etc. I would instead recommend a lightweight slick and your current tires.

Switching tires should take about 10min with some practice.

I would definitely do this - it will make your 30mi ride much nicer.

I've been using Geax Evolution tyres for quite a while, I use them both on and off-road, and they could be the answer here. They don't lose much, if anything on the full slicks on the road (probably about 0.5km/h if that), and they are surprisingly good on the dirt.

Would advise to change tires. It will be worth it for your road ride.

If you need to learn how to change the tires download the manual on here.
