What is a good price for a just A bike . Nothing fancy or anything.

I was looking to spend less than 300 today. But the placeI went to the lowest road bike they had was for 700 bucks.

Ok after taking the advice to go to C.list Which deal is best.

You need to go to WalMart, or go used on Craigslist. bk

Sadly, this is true. A respectable road bike will start at somewhere around $700. Talk to a bike shop about last year's closeouts and stuff; maybe they can get you something for less, but probably not down to $300. However, for $300 you can probably get something okay (or maybe very good) used.

If you can spend an extra 100 bucks performance has the Fuji Absolute 3.0 for $404 after 10% off.

And if you want a road bike instead of a hybrid they have the Newest 3.0 with Sora for $399 as well.

The Ibex and the Trek are the most likely to meet your needs; the first one isn't a road bike, it's a Wal-Mart bike you can buy yourself.

What're you planning to do with this bike? Road bikes aren't necessarily the best choice.

I am doing a sprint . In like 5 mos.

The bike that fits you is the best. The Schwinn is too big for you. No size is given for the others. Go and try riding the Ibex and the Trek 1000. Check that the gears shift smoothly and that the wheels are round.

well i went to my local bike store and told them i was looking for a bike for 300 and they gave me a redline 530 that they said retails for 400 plus. so you might do the same at your local bike store.
i think there are some okay bikes being sold at local bike stores for 300, but i would stay away from the temptation of buying from the big box stores, as you get no customer support after the sale.

I'd rather get a used one on CL than anything new from Wallmart. My first road bike was a $200 used Trek 1220 from CL, I spend probably another $150 on fixes and upgrades. I rode it for an entire season with zero problems. I sold it later to another guy since I wanted a fancy carbon bike, but I wished later I kept it, I didn't like the carbon bike :(
