so correct. i saw this same post on a nudist forum (just browsing) except for the word "cycliing" was replaced with "nudist. it was equally convincing.

to be honest, i really don't care one way or the other. my post was an exaggeration meant to be amusing. i may have succeeded only in my mind, a common occurrence for me.

Sorry man I reacted too harsh to your post. Must be time to get out on my bike I'm a bit too edgy.

Sun, sweat, and that nice cool air over you once your moving. It feels great. Even though I have a jersey, I just leave it in the car 1/2 the time if the weather is warm enough. Plus, I like doublin' up on good things. Cycling + getting a tan is awesome. No farmers tan. The chicks dig that.

Yea, go shirtless when its hot and humid. No wicking necessary with the cooling effect of fresh air blowin' over your body.

Common sense rules as far as sun exposure is concerned. You have to build a tan just like everything else we do. Everybody likes a handsome, full-coverage tan. Nobody likes the farmer-tan look.

As far as going shirtless if you feel others will think you look good, what kind of logic is that. Removing the shirt for comfort and a tan, when doing so is appropriate, is also a reminder that there are some physique things we need to work on this season. We are who we are.

Living in Florida, I could ride shirtless every day, but I don't. For me shirtless happens most when I'm on a long rural ride where there are open roads and few onlookers. It is a healthy, fun way way to ride.

three hours and no response to a distinctly provocative post. what a bunch of dweebs...

should have provoked at least four or five tasteless responses and a couple of borderline reprimands from the monitors at least.

My commutes are early in the morning (dark most of the year) and fairly late in the afternoon. No worries: I barely get enough sun to get tan. Most of the year in western Oregon I need supplemental vitamine D.

I don't know what was provocative about the first post. You could simply mean that you are female. I used to know a Kelly Huey who's family name was originally Hoolihan, if I remember right.

Buglady, I have been stung many times right through my shirt on trail races, running. I think it definitely helped my pace in the 50K, at least temporarily.

I agree with this post, this is really the times I ride shirtless as well. Typically it's going to be out in the country with few people around.

While I have no problem with anyone else riding shirtless, I have no plans on doing it myself.

I have fair skin and a low tolerence for sun. My preference is long sleeves even in hot weather. In extremely hot weather it can act as insulation to keep the heat OUT. And I like white helmets and clothing over black in the sun for similar reasons. Recall a drive through Death Valley with two other bikers who thought I was a little overdressed. Interestingly enough - I was the one that didn't get heat stroke.

It's common sense to cover up with fair skin. I've cycled thru Death Valley many times shirtless and never had heat stroke. Mind you this was in April.

Ahh! The zombie thread from 2004!

I don't ride shirtless, but that's because I don't like the way my body looks without clothing. If you want to ride without a shirt, have at it. I encourage it if you're female!

Fun useless fact: I used to mow the yard shirtless wearing shorts when I was 100lbs heavier. Now that I'm lighter I'm *more* ashamed of my body. Weird.
