Bike for the girlfriend
My girlfriend is moving to the city with me in the next few months, and she wants a bike. I've been looking at a few of the hybridy/dutch style city bikes, and was looking for a few more recommendations.
Things that would be nice, but not necessary: belt drive, disc brakes, a rack (single), and a mixte style frame. Any combination of those is acceptable. I'm looking to spend at most about 6-700 for this bike for her. I am open to building the bike out of parts, as well. Bikes I have looked at: Trek Belleville, Linus Mixte. |
Unless you girlfriend is a big heavy girl, disc brakes seem overkill. Also, a rack is an easy after-market install, so if you find a bike that she likes and it doesn't have a rack, that is fixed easily.
Your girlfriend should be looking at the bikes. If she doesn't like it because it doesn't have pink flowers on it, or for any other reason, you just wasted your money. |
She will be looking at them, I'm just trying to get some ideas of what to look at.

The kind I mentioned above, mostly.

are you sure it's not what you want for her instead of what she wants for herself?
|
I've looked at bikes for her before with her, and shes always loved the dutch bike/cruiser style. She points out cool Mixtes and the like on the street. This is definitely what she wants (also, I'm just building a list for her to attempt to test and take a look at and choose).

The third degree, dang...check out the trek bellville's or some of the ralleigh's. They are nice, probably not going to get belt drive in that price range. Goodluck!

Bust this bike http://brickwell.com/product/schwinn...ed-62607-1.htm. She will be happy to receive loads of compliments on this cute bike. If you can't find one, I will gladly sell you mine. :)

I agree
any Shwinn Cruiser IMO is very girly and 'cute' EDIT: Found this one that looks nice called a Schwinn Collegiate http://www.jims59.com/vintageschwinn...Collegiate.jpg |
