Sadly this is they way some/most (I can't seem to decide which these days) people get their kicks these days. Trails are the best place to be. One can relax, get the tunes on and reap ALL the benefits of cycling.

Mostly, except that bike trails don't usually go where I'm planning to go. I tend to use them when I can, but if I'm going somewhere else, I'm out on the road.
Just going out for a wee 20 ile Easter Monday Burn and once again the level of patience on show is well......there's absolutely no patience to be had now. 2010 is turning out to be the nadir of car driver patience. I just don't get it and it all seems to be getting worse. |
If I get passed by some arrogant bike-Nazi types, I just jump on their wheel and drop 'em on the hills. Works every time.

Yeah, the dumbass hillbillies in their Dodge Ram duallies out here like to run people off the road and throw beer bottles at bikers as they pass. Nice people, eh? |

Theoretically this is true. But I've been cycling for more than 40 years, and I think the Arrogant Pr**k ratio is higher in road cycling than in any sport except perhaps downhill skiing.
My personal theory on this is that in MTBing, it is more about rider vs trail, and so less of a competing with others and besides, there is more to it than just fast - trail skills are harder to quantify. So the need for a pecking order is lower. On road bikes, speed pretty much sets the defining factor. So that tends to bring out the competitive juices a little more, and in some cases, leads to ******baggery (just like 2 dogs will fight until they establish who's alpha, some of these riders will try to assert dominance in one way or the other.. and acting like a road nazi is a way to do that). Whatever. People can be ******s all they want, no skin off my nose. Funnily, in sports which are completely non-competitive - eg, scuba diving - you still see people trying to find a way to measure wangs. Some of it is in air consumption, some of it is by acting more holier-than-thou (scuba forums have the biggest collection of insufferable, sanctimonious pr*cks I have ever encountered). I can last about 2 days on Scubaforums before leaving in disgust. V. |
I think it is people in general. Now I have met some over inflated ego bike riders for sure. They are all decked out in their latest clothing pertending to be on the TDF and their nose in the air. I laugh at these pricks and just keep on pedaling. Let's face it, some people just want to feel like they are better than the rest. They are nobodies as far as I am concerned.
You know what makes me mad with cyclist???? I HATE when a cyclist in traffic will meander between cars to get to the front! Folks......a cyclist has to obey the rules of the road just like a vehicle. Stay your place in line! I think this is why cagers start to hate cyclist with those sort of tactics. |

sometimes I act like a jerk without knowing it like passing someone on a MUP without signaling. its a judgment call based on speed and proximity and there's a gray area where sometimes I think I'm fine without signaling but then the person I passed gets freaked and yells: "signal!"

FTFY. Mountain bikers, as a breed, are lot more mellow and laid back.

Then, I get the, "Well, it's not stock." Damned right, it ain't stock. Run whatcha brung. The first time I beat an LS1 car, the owner had the nerve to start whining and all concerned, says, "What's wrong with my car? You have an LT1! The LS1 is supposed to be faster!" I simply had to tell the arrogant little crybaby, "Nothing's wrong with your car, it just ain't faster than mine." Some people are just jackasses for no reason. Maybe it's something in the water, or maybe it's something in the air. Who knows, maybe they were just born that way... |

I always always always filter to the front. Have fun pretending to be a car, i rather take advantage that i'm on a bicycle. Who the **** cares about the rules, they are made for cars, in city built for cars, on roads populated by cars. No thanks. If cagers hate me for doing that (like i give a ****), well no one is stopping them from getting a bike and doing the same. |

Rules are established so that people don't get hurt or killed, but I guess you're one stupid enough to take the risk. |
Yeah and ive been taking it for 5 years and am still here. Apparently it works. I'm not dumb, i know where to draw the line. Sitting behind a bunch of cagers breathing in exhaust is not it though.
