Need advice on new bicycle purchase

Hi All,
It's been a while since I've been on this site but it's good to be back. I got into bicycling last year in order to loose weight, and get into shape. Well since then I had lapband surgury, and I've lost 50 pounds since last Feb 16th, but all winter long I've been working out on my rower, and doing resistance excersizes in the gym. I have a Trek Navigator 2.0 that is great, but now I'd like to get a more performance oriented bike, and was thinking of either the Giant Dash 3, or the Cannondale Quick 5. they both seem to be compairable , so what do you guys think I would be getting more for my money, the Giant or the Cannondale?
Thanks,
Paul

I don't mean to sound snarky, but this is the response that will pop up sooner or later:

Test ride them and see which one you like more.

Whew, got that out of the way

Are those the only bikes you have to choose from? Have you looked at or considered other brands?

I've looked at others, but the Giant, and Cannondale were the two that caught my fancy.
