How do I paint a pair of Velocity deep v rims, materials, etc...?
Just got a used- perfect set of deep v's w/ Phil Wood hubs but I want to paint them a new color? Went with these because I got a great deal? Any suggestions, technegues, best kind of paint, etc? Thanks

If you want colored rims, get them powder-coated from the factory. Paint won't hold up.

As Retro & Blazing said: don't. It'll cost you more in time/labor/money/brain cells to recolor the existing rims than it would be to simply buy new Deep-V's in the color you want. There's certainly plenty of choices:

Take wheels apart,media blast,etching primer,paint,clearcoat,rebuild wheel.
While you have them apart,buy the color rims you want,much easier/cheaper.
Unless your trying to match a certain color,not worth it.

I wouldn't paint them. But if you really want to do it right. Consider having the wheels taken apart and having the rims powder coated.

In addition to what everybody else has said, won't the brake pads rub the paint off the braking surface of the rim in about three stops, meanwhile reducing friction so you crash on stops one and two? Or have I wandered into the track bike forum by mistake?
