First time shaving
I consided shaving before but at first was quite apprehensive. I finally decided to give it a try.
I like how smooth my legs feel now  . I didnt realize it took so long to shave. Here are the two reasons I know of why cyclist shave 1. Slight aerodynamic advantage 2. and crash recovery I went out riding yesterday with my new shaved legs and I beat my best time for the 20.2 mile course that I do by one whole minute. Alot of it probably has to do with the fact that I had an awesome recovery from a previous ride on the same course like 2 days ago. But still I think the shaved legs made me a bit faster. So do you guys shave your legs and if so why? Oh yea checkout before and after, leg on the left hasn't been shaved yet, and the leg on the right has just been shaved http://www.talesbymoonlight.com/temp/temp2.jpg |
I don't...yet. One thing I never hear people talk about is heat exchange. Ever shaved your head bald? You can cool down really quick. I would think this would be one of the best advantages of shaving.

I'd shave if it'd stay shaved after the first shave.
|
Wax them
|
HMMM, Maybe that expalins why I slow down some going into a headwind. He, he!

But.... what about the annoying irritation and nubs? Is there any way to avoid razor rash? I use clippers first of the season, then a razor with regular face cream, then re-attack every couple weeks with the blade.
|
Use hair conditioner on your legs before you shave. It'll take care of the irritation or rash you get with a rough shave.

For the love of the game [sport]. :) :)

I started shaving my head this year, it does feel cooler. I can't work up the courage to shave leggs yet. I started with electric rezor, I got lots of razor burn, switched to a blade, now I am fine.
|
you should have left them alone, at least that little bit of hair covered up those gawdy things! My eyes are still burning from the photo.
|
I honestly doubt that you gained any speed due to shaving your legs.
|
I dunno - I tried it once, as well as trying wearing just my bike shorts instead of rolled up jeans. I am pretty sure it was faster. I have really hairy legs, and I felt a real difference in how they cut through the air. But it wasn't worth the time it took to shave, so I'm letting my hair grow back out.
Still, it did make a difference. Makes me wish I didn't have hair on my legs. |
the only reason for a rec. cyclist to shave is for the massage benefits. that and admiring your awesome definition.

I'm lucky (or unlucky) that I have no hair on my legs to begin with :(. I get it from my parents, both Chinese.

Why don't you guys use, uh, girly shaving stuff? It is sorta designed for what you're doing, ya know. ;) Haha, go to walmart and get that pink razor and strawberry shaving cream!

try nair or something similar. they just came out with a foam you spray on and then scrape off. it works pretty good, but test it first on a small patch in case you're allergic.
|
by the way, that wasn't miles, that was his girlfriend :) he asked me to clarify it
|
Just go ahead and nair it up!
