A Good Lock

What is a good lock that can do the best job of trying prevent any kind of theft? I go to a local university and you know how those can be hotspots for bike thieves. Give me any suggestions on which lock is the most useful. Thanks.

I am sure there are different answers for different situations, but I always use two: a decent u-lock and a 10mm cable.

+1
check this out http://www.sheldonbrown.com/lock-strategy.html

I generaly only use a U-lock with an anti-theft skewer on my front wheel with my U-lock locked to the rear rim through the triangle, as per sheldons strategy, But I only ever lock my bike up while running in somewhere, if at all possible I always try and bring my bike inside

A U lock is your best defense.

We used to say that all bikes weigh the same: You can ride a 20 lb. bike and carry a 20 lb. lock or you can ride a 40 lb. bike and not bother with a lock.

In a University environment I'd recommend a semi-expendable bike and minimal locking system.
