19 yrs on tire.
my bike came with tioga city slicker tires. front wheel still has original tube/tire. got a small leak over the weekend. found small bubble when i wet tire. its cool though. i have 1.5" tires and got a set of continental town&country tires from a friend that are 1.9". have 1 tire on rear now and will put new one on front this week. makes bike look like a mud truck but they were free. think i will get different 1.5" tires instead. i only roll on paved bike paths.

Don't throw the City Slickers out. Create a shrine for them. Bring them candles and flowers and alcohol.

back tire blew out the sidewall in 07. and rim actually buckled. well it did have about 12 nice stress fractures at various spoke locations. started to vibrate when i applied brakes. the front rim has very small fractures and the tire sidewall is starting to bulge in one spot. i ride slow. got a set of nice used wheels. put one rim on back in 07.

Barring punctures the biggest enemy of a tyre is mileage and UV... I have ancient tyres that are as supple as they were 40 years ago because they have been stored well and have seen tyres that are not that old that look like are going to turn to dust because they have spent their life in the sun.
Somewhere in between the tyre starts to become harder and less supple and the ride quality and handling starts to suffer.
Very good tyres may last over 6000 miles depending on the rider and useage and I have tyres that have gone beyond this mark that are still within wear limits.
Lifespan on rims is not time based but mileage based and most decent rims will last 10,000 miles before wear starts to become a concern and they need to be replaced. When the braking surface becomes concave due to braking wear it compromises the strength of the rim sidewall and a blown out rim can cause serious injuries if it happens at speed.
