What Kind of Bike is This?

One sales person called it a touring bike. Another said it is a hybrid. Can anyone tell me which category it falls under?

judging by the plushness of the seat and the upright position this bikes seems to afford I would say, Hybrid/commuter bike. It seems fairly similar to the raleigh venture which was designed for comfortable commuting.

Hybrid. I googled the brand and it looks like their built by Raleigh.

That clears things up, thanks guys.

How can you tell? Is it the top tube that gives it away?

A lot of little details, suspension fork, suspension seat post, stem, upright riding positon. This hybrid looks to be a cross between a mountain bike and a crusier. Most touring bikes will not use the suspension fork, frame or seatpost, these items absorb too much energy and add weight to the bike.

That's not a touring bicycle. A touring bike is an overbuilt, comfy road bike with eyelets for attaching front and rear racks, like this: https://www.jamisbikes.com/usa/thebik...10_aurora.html

EDIT: Or better yet, like this:

-Frame geometry, somewhat similar to that of an MTB.
-Has a short travel suspension fork and suspension seatpost (dead giveaway)
-Slick tires, but not as skinny asroad tires
-High rise stem
