vertical bicycle storage
 

Guys, I have my Cannondale outside and my fixie inside. the rear tire touches the part of the balcony that it rains into.
Do you think there's a way to store this vertically somehow without drilling into the wall?
I wanna keep it away from the rain towards the window.

If you can't find a better solution, you might just need to get a $5 tarp to cover the bike.

you could probably hack something together with a compression bar (floor to ceiling) and some hooks.. I think i've seen some ikea hackage along the same lines

the only problem is my apartment has these really weird 7 1/2ft ceiling so I can't really put a bike on top with exposed brake cables, or a MTB with a tall seatpost.

I've been thinking about a vertical mount for my office at work, where I'd probably get in serious trouble for making holes in the wall instead of having the union guys do it, and the union guys would have to get approval from whoever and the whole bureaucracy of it just makes me want to circumvent the system by having a mostly free-standing piece of furniture to hold my bike. I'm planning to take a piece of 2" PVC, and a 3 way right angle bracket to make a stand w/ enough balance to hold itself and the bike, and then a strap to hold the front wheel to it and a drip tray on the ground.... maybe I should draw this...

That's exactly the same I have now. the rear wheel would still be in the rain.
I am looking for a solution where one wheel is above the other.
I think tarp might have to do.

I think the idea is that if your fixie was inside, you could put the stand inside and put both the fixie and the cannondale on the stand, and it would take up the same amount of room as just the fixie did.
