Fenders? Wald?

Most of my bikes have 700c wheels, but the tandem has 26" wheels, as does my wife's bike. Right now, hers has a clip on rat-tail fender on the rear that I found somewhere. I'd like fenders on the tandem, and am short of cash. I generally prefer metal to plastic, and am considering the following options:

Wald has fenders for 26" and smaller wheels, that are probably the most affordable, under $20.00
Velo-orange has aluminum and stainless fenders for around $50.00.
I'd probably buy the Wald's sooner than the v-o, and am wondering if they're worth waiting for. I'm not terribly concerned about weight, but obviously prefer lighter to heavier. And I have no idea what the weights actually are. Have any of you used Wald fenders? Are they good enough?
Honjo's are just too expensive.

Wald are like what you would find on a old Schwinn Cruiser. They are heavy (compared to the others) Chrome plated steel. I usually opt for Planet Bike fenders which are plastic but are a decent compromise.

I've been using Esge/SKS Chromoplast mudguards on my bikes for many years , they are rather High tech. [German exports]
a core of metal foil strips, with a couple insulating stripes separating ..
they have been used as electrical conductors . + on one side - on the other ,
for taillight wiring when the taillight is mounted onto the fender.. and a particularly ductile tube
of a particular plastic surrounding the foil on all sides.

riding below zero a lot and metal fenders dont get brittle like some plastics might..

2nd the Esges. I don't know that they're better than Wald's, but I have them on two bikes and they've been good--cover the tires, no rattles, don't weigh much. I also used to have Planet Bikes on my singlespeed, and they did the job for a little less money.
