The reality is that shirt color is one of the last things to worry about when dealing with safety. I pass many cyclists and I cannot ever remember noticing what they were wearing...ever. I do remember blinkies getting my attention or the fact they they took the lane, or whether they had a flag on their bent, or were pulling a trailer, or swerving and so on.

Because of one's body position on a bike, the area of visible shirt to a car driver is very small.

I had a close run in with a bus in Berkeley - but the 2nd time me and a bus had a meetup I made the bus follow my lead up to the BART station. You can make yourself more "visble" on a bike. But the best strategy IMO is isolation and following the same rules as cars. I see far too many morons in SF and Berkeley blowing past reds and cutting off cars.

I survived yet another ride in dark colors. Must be the white helmet.

wear any color jersey (or shoes, helmet, gloves, goggles) you want for safely or style, but as for the shorts please keep them black.

apologies if these images are over-posted.

I don't fit the category of "moron" . Although I wear black spandex bibs and/or pants, I wear brightly colored clothing which counters the dark color and enables others to see me. When wearing my screaming yellow jerseys and jackets, for example, people have been able to notice me from far away. In addition, I equipped my bicycle with white safety lights on the handlebars and red PBSF's on the chainstays. I keep these lights in flashing mode whenever I ride. Furthermore, I don't ride at night.

I don't think I personally own one black jersey. But I think they look cool.
