Got hit by a car twice today........

Both where running stop signs...... I bounced off the hood of one car while going 20mph... jumped off the hood of the car then back on my bike... but the ****er forced me from the cross walk into the main road... Stop sign is 2 feet from the cross walk... he almost hit my bike, May have hit the pedals.

cross walk is about 5 feet wide....

Other **** head ran a stop sign while i was going 30mph in a 30mph road.... I forced him into the other lane... I could have hit him.... The passenger was even screaming bicycle! bicycle!

I would like to get the news to cover this kind of ****, Its ****ing illegal and could get me killed, If i can get enough people to email the local new station maybe they will follow me, all i need is a helmet cam.. I would scare the **** out of some of you the **** i run into day to day.....

Well, you ran a stop sign too so the first driver is not the only one to blame.

Did he? I understood the first case as him walking his bike in a cross walk, and the other him going through an intersection, and a guy who had a stop sign didn't stop. I could be completely wrong though, the post was a bit confusing to me. I would guess that he was doing something wrong to get hit twice in one day though. I've only been hit once in over a year, and now I know to watch for right hooks.

The way I understood it was that they both ran a stop sign. I see where the misunderstanding happened: "Both where running stop signs...... " I took that to mean that both, him and the first car, were running the stop sign.

Mea culpa.

First time he was doing 20 mph in the crosswalk, as in he came off the sidewalk at speed? Lowlux needs to learn to write, learn to ride, or both.

Yeah. If I was driving I wouldn't exactly expect a 20mph vehicle to zip by on a cross WALK. If you were in the road it would be his fault but as far as I see it, when the driver "forced you from the crosswalk onto the main road" he was just putting you where you belong....

Where are you at? I rarely see people run stop signs here in Oregon, but when I lived in Tampa, a stop sign was a dare apparently. Stop lights, yellow meant go faster and red meant floor it. If you stopped for a yellow, you'd get rear ended. Soooo glad I don't live there anymore.

lowlux needs an editor and/or an interpreter. Hard to tell exactly what happened. Someone get him (her?) a helmet cam so he (she?) can scare the **** out of us!

Helmets have spell check and grammar correction, or is it the cam which does?

If the helmet cam video shows what happened, it doesn't matter that the writing is confusing at best.

sucks to hear but there comes a point when you have to wonder what you could have done differently. There is a such thing as defensive riding... I know we all want to believe that we have the same rights as any car and they owe us this, that, and the other thing but remember that they are driving a 2000-6000 lb armored box, we ride 20 lb bikes.

not saying they cars were right because it isnt my call but I am saying if something happens to one person twice in one day, you have to wonder what that person was doing too. Never assume that the other driver is paying attention/obeying the law.

The first two points in defensive driving (for a bicycle) are to be visible and to be predictable. From the mostly-incoherent account in the OP, I don't think either was the case. Two drivers are probably on some car forum right now, complaining about kamikaze bicyclists.

Haha, do they have those? Maybe lowlux can clear this up, though somehow I doubt he was riding with safety in mind.

lowlux,

I realize that you probably made the original post soon after your encounters and were still wrought from the experience. Now that you've had a chance to settle down, we'd love to have a more detailed synopsis of what happened to you. We care, but we are confused about the details.

2 cars running 2 stop signs... one hit my pegs, I had to jump on his hood and back onto the bike but forced me into on coming traffic from a sidewalk....

stop sign is 1 foot or 2 foot? from the sidewalk, sidewalk is 5 foot wide.. its illegal to block the side walk, every time i ride this sidewalk at least 30 block the sidewalk ride...... I *****ed to the news about it a month ago, Got no reply, I am thinking if they get 300 emails maybe they will do a report or get the ****ing cops to watch the sidewalk... one guy was killed because a car knocked him into on coming traffic.

Maybe i will make some signs to stick up next to the stop sign? You can see bicycles coming from 4 blocks away from both ways, People are not looking or don't care..

Few years ago someone tried forcing me into on coming traffic on purpose.. I spun around and broke his side window out with a metal water bottle.

There are threads about various helmet cams. I think "Contour" brand is liked (no experience myself)

So....did you get hit by two cars in the same day. Or you ALMOST got hit by two cars in the same day? Or you got hit by a car and almost got hit by another car? I"m quite confused.

Cyclist should never ride on the cross walk anyways. I think it is at least illegal in CA, I got warned by a cop and almost got a ticket. You should walk your bike on the cross walk.

If you got hit by two cars. I'm quite surprise that you can ride on your bike after the fist hit. 20mph impact on a bike is quite huge, and it is enough to devastate a bike because a bike doesn't really take lateral force.

Anyways, if you can post here, that means you are at least still alive, which is good. I understands accident happens even if you abide by the rules. I hope it is a lesson learned by all parties.

Yes, I'll agree that the driver should have stopped.

But given that they occasionally don't, bombing off the sidewalk into a crosswalk at 20 MPH is stupid.

Are are saying that you were riding your bicycle in a cross walk and you were hit by a car that ran a stop sign? And this happened 2 separate times today? Whatever the case, sorry to hear that.

Whenever I am riding my bike and I see a car approaching an intersection I always prepare for the possibility that the car will not see me. First, I try to make eye contact with the driver to confirm that I have been spotted by the driver of the car. If I cannot make eye contact with the car I will often yell out "Stop" and hopefully that works. If not I attempt an evasive manuver. Of course, this becomes more difficult the faster I am going.
