anyone ever had chain problems
 

Hi, im designing a chain device for my project at college. To help me with my research i would be grateful if you could tell me about any problems youve had with the chain coming off, or rattling around and causing damage.

What type of biking do you do?
If you ride with a chain device which one would you recomend?
Have you ever had trouble whilst using a particular chain device?
Do your trousers ever get caught in the chain?
Has the chain ever caused damage to the bike with or without a chain device?
Have you ever had trouble fitting a chain device?
Have you ever found that chain tensioners cause the chain to snap?

if you can give me any information regarding problems youve experianced then i would be most grateful.

My experience is that the number one reason for chain failure is due to lack of cleaning and proper lubrication. But I am certain that there are other interesting stories out there.

Make it stronger and more adjustable. The interloc chain made by Shadow Conspiracy for BMX'ers is a good place to start. They're on to something.

I'ev never had a chain come off and I've never had one cause damage (over 10,000 miles).

Do you ever shift chainrings?

Why is it that all these students come bug us for info yet never PARTICPATE IN THE GROUP?
I just find that really irritating.

On my commuting bike, I had a plastic SRAM rear mech crack, and the chain wrapped itself around the cogs, jaming between the chainstays. Needed a vice to unravel the thing, and only a steel chainstay could have survived this abuse. Ive never had this problem with metal rear mechs.
Ive has a few spokes damaged when the chain comes off the large cog. A spoke protector, or a large cog with a protector would solve this.
