commuting vs non commuting rides in the rain

I'm not bike commuting right now so I'm trying to bike at least 29 miles 2 days a week and today is one of my days but it's raining. Do I ride my winter commuter w/ full commuting rain gear or go back to bed? I'm not posting this in the commuting forum cuz I know what they will all say!

Depends on the rain.

Heavy, cold rain: stay inside

Light rain, with a slim chance that it might ease up: ride, dammit.

I know how you feel. I used to commute rain or shine and quite enjoyed bad weather. Now I am "between jobs" I try to get out to keep in shape but it is oh so hard when the weather is poor.

We'll just come over here then, ya can't escape

So, that said, HTFU and RIDE! LOL

Really - do what makes you happy. It isn't about what a bunch of anonymous people on the internet say. If you don't want to ride, don't do it. Tomorrow will probably still come and you can do it then.

If the rain is cold, you have to wear a rain suit or freeze. I bought an inexpensive nylon rainsuit years ago. I figured why get something pricey because of the dirt and oil out on the road. It is humble not attractive but it does its job. Also, if you are riding in the rain, you have to clean your bike afterwards and yourself which makes commuting a bit dicey.

Go back to bed... When you get up tell the commuters you rode it out!

Personally, I wouldn't purposely ride in the rain unless it was for actual transport of some type.

The promise of sunny skies and temps in the 60s had me riding in the rain into Boston early this morning.

As long as the temps are above freezing and you have adequate gear, I say HTFU and ride.

It depends, if I haven't been bike commuting for some reason, I might ride anyway, just because I get cranky if I don't ride for 2 days. if it wasn't really bad, light showers, or just a bit chilly, i might ride anyway because i ant to go out, and i don't have a car....

The Tavern to socialize with Friends & some Pint's is a mile away,
so I don my Rain Gear and Go.

Haven't needed the Bike with the studded tires, but once, so far, this winter..
had a 28F day earlier in the year. AK cold front from the Arctic Pacific.
