forward offset seatpost, 26.8
 

I have an old steel Fuji road bike. My anatomy is such that pushing the saddle all the way forward does not quite put the knee over the pedal for the best comfort and pedaling efficiency; very close, but not quite. I have 165mm cranks and won't be changing them.
I ride in a modified upright position, and like to have my sit bones on the place on the saddle that's designed to accommodate them. The zero-offset seat post I have - with the saddle all the way forward on its rails - causes me to sit a few millimeters forward of the ideal sit-bone resting-place, that is, on the narrower part of the saddle.
I think I can't get a Profile Design "fast forward" seatpost, as it doesn't appear to come in 26.8mm. The Thomson Elite setback does, and I think I've read that it can be safely reversed. Can someone confirm that, or suggest a (not-too-expensive) alternative to help me sit just a little farther forward on the bike?

I can indeed confirm that a Thomson Elite setback seatpost fits a round seat tube and so could be installed 180° opposite of its intended orientation. Whether that's actually "safe" is a separate issue that I have no knowledge or opinion of.

Origin 8. They come in obscure old sizes.

I solved a similar problem by going from the Champion Flyer saddle to a Terry Cit Y. It gave me a little more forward adjustment without changing seatposts. It broke my heart to do it, but the Terry is also a good saddle.

Actually, whether it was round and thus physically capable of being rotated was never at issue. I might have been clearer: seatposts I've tried to do this with in the past would not allow a full range of tilt when reversed and thus it proved impossible to level the saddle. The other concern was whether - not being designed to work this way - the seatpost would be in some way structurally unsound when so used.

Anyway I thank you all for your input. Since posting I've read in several places that this is practical with the Thomson post, and I've ordered one.
