This has puzzled me for a while...
What is up with the whole one pant leg pulled up while riding a bike?
|
Is it the right-side pant leg?
The cyclist may not want to get it greasy / torn from the chain / chainring. :) |
Ah! Duh! Thanks, dude! lol
|
That is from personal experience. I can't think of any other reasons.
Usually if I have to ride in long pants for some reason, I will tuck the left hand side of the right leg into my sock just to keep it out of the way of things. |
That's usually done by riders who are a little more mentally balanced than I am -- I'm distracted to the point of irritation by doing that, so I strap down my pant legs (yes, both -- the left one has flapped into the rear tire and actually caught once or twice!). Not too much different from what I was required to do in the Army.

I do it just to look cool.
(more cool than I would look with a big black greasy tear in my pants :)) If I plan ahead I have velcro pant leg straps that hold it together, but often I jsut hop on and ride. |
Last week, I was at a sports & trophy shop, and I bought two pairs of orange athletic socks, Day glow orange.
I've decided to tuck both pants legs into my socks, for the sake of uniformity. I think the florourecent orange will add visibility. Actually, a couple of months ago, I got my left pant leg caught on the water bottle cage, and ripped the pants. Right now, on Long Island, we have frozen rain and slush on the ground. But come spring, I will be wearing shorts again. |
I thought it was to keep the body hydrated by exposing a leg, but I guess it makes more sense for the purpose of not wanting to get the pant leg stuck on the gears.

I don't wear pants when I ride.

I do it to keep my pants from getting caught in my chain.
Around 6 months ago I forgot to roll my pant leg up while I was on my fixed gear. My pant leg got caught in the chain, and since I couldn't stop pedaling it almost made me crash while riding on a very busy road. I'm assuming it wouldn't have been as big of a deal if I was on my geared bike. Needless to say, I never forget to roll my pant legs up anymore. I don't wear socks that are high enough for me to tuck my pants into them. |

I used those reflective strap things one time and my neighbor looked at me like I was a social outcast. Next time I will blind him with the reflective power of my white legs. |

No, euro trash chic would be the hipsters riding fixies with their skinny leg jeans with no need for the pant roll.

I roll up the left Levi pant leg and the Camel bullets get rolled up in the right t-shirt sleeve....A little 4-Roses in the hair, cinch down the high top Converse and I'm ready to roll....
|
I was rolling up my right pant leg for awhile but it can get cold being exposed to winter weather.

:welcome to BF, BikeCommuter99! Rolling up your pant leg is supposed to be "Cool" NOT "Cold"!:roflmao2::lol: - Slim :) |
After I finished replacing the tubes and tires, adjusting the seat height, etc. on the bike my son gave me ( Trek 4900 ) figured I do a test ride at the park behind my house.
As I was about to climb aboard, noticed that it didn't have that chain guard plate thing that my Varsity had. What to do? Didn't want to change out of my work pants, just wanted to ride. Should I stuff my pants leg into my sock? or just chance it... Took the chance, when for the ride, had way too much fun, came home, changed, and did 2 more hours. |
