shoe situation
 

I recently got a mtn bike that has a different style of pedals than my road bike. Since I only have one pair or shoes, and want to be able to ride either bike at any given time, I have come to the conclusion that I need to buy another pair of shoes. I currently have some Shimano shoes that are similair to these . I like them because I can still kind of walk around in them without too much difficulty. The question is, do you guys/gals think I should by another pair similiar to those, buy some real mtn shoes, or buy some real road shoes? I'm leaning towards the real road shoes, because I ride that bike more often, but I'm afraid it might be really hard to walk around in them. Any ideas/input/suggestions? Thanks

one solution is to get another set of mtn pedals. No need for new shoes. Walking is a real pain in road shoes.

I thought about that, but a buddy of mine told me me I should keep my road pedals, because mtn pedals are too easy to get out of if you pull up on them. Of course, the opposite applies for the the road pedals on the mtn bike. Does he know what he's talking about?

Road pedals are generally a larger platform and can offer more support for your foot on a longer ride. Road shoes are not great for walking around in so hopefully you won't be doin' much walkin'. A stiff sole is a must in a road shoe - but comfortable fit that does not bind is also important.

I've ridden a few thousand miles with SPD pedals and MTB shoes. No problems with my foot coming out on the upstroke.

Let me get this straight; you have a road bike with SPDs and shoes like the ones in the link, and now you've bought an MTB that has different pedals. Seems to me the easiest thing to do would be to buy another pair of SPD pedals (SPD are the ones with the small two-bolt cleats).

But if you're set on getting some new shoes, go for some decent raod shoes and pedals (Look, SPD-SL, Speedplay etc). As long as you don't walk everywhere in them, you'll wonder why you bothered with SPDs.
