ARGGGGG! Damn shifter!!!

My new Worksman Cruiser has a Shimano 7 speed hub with coaster brake. The hub is sweet but the shifter that came with it is a nightmare 'cause everything about it backwards.

In order to shift up (higher gear) I have to twist the shifter down and to shift down (lower gear) I have to twist the shifter up.

More than once I've gone the wrong way either almost falling due to to low a gear or not being able to scoot out of the way by being in to high a gear.

It's fricking maddening!

Is there an easy sane fix to allow me to change the shifting direction??

If you have a pull/pull Dual cable setup like Rohloff, its simple..

How about if you put it on the other side of the handlebar?
Ie if on the right side , put it on the left.

Unless you are old and set in your ways, you'll get used to it. Even if you are old and set in your ways.

Does the hub shift low-normal? I don't understand if the divergence from normal is in the hub or the shifter.

I suppose it's a little of both. The shifter is a slave to the hub so yes it's the hub now that I think about it.

You might be stuck with getting used to 'backwards' shifting. But maybe your LBS can come up with something.

HTFU. On road motorcycles, you shift with your left foot and race bike shifters are reversed from street bikes. Then you got back far enough in history and the shifters are on the right side. Then if you fly helicopters, you find that the throttle is in your left hand instead of on the right as on motorcycles and you need to twist it away from you instead of toward you to increase it. Then there are the rudder pedals in airplanes (and helicopters) which are reversed from what you'd do on your flexible-flier or cart, push on the right to yaw right instead of push right to turn left...
