Atlanta was amazing....
 

My wife and I got back from our trip to Atlanta Wed night, just in time for the local CM meeting. I've been there once before but that was pre-biking days. We stayed at the Highland Inn close to little 5 points and the first thing I noticed was how many cyclists there were out and about. It's a very active town with joggers, bikers and bladers all around and seemed very bike friendly. Lot's of paths all around but we didn't have time to do them as it rained a lot of the trip. We did drive up to the Silver Comet Trail (www.pathfoundation.org) and it was the most beautiful ride ever. We did a total of 70 miles which is our highest so far. I now know I can do much more and would have liked to, but my wife was feeling doubtful so we cut it a bit short.
Funny though, my wife's front tire was real low on the way back but I didn't want to waste a co2 because we were close to a bike shop on the trail and knew we could pump the tire up there so I ended up riding her bike and her mine. I hated hers (way too small) but she loved mine. I told her we could put some slicks on hers but she's already wanted a road bike and riding my bike only perpetuated that so we ended up buying one on ebay. It's an Iron Horse Triumph, lightly used. It seemed like a good deal to me @ $350 w/free shipping. She's excited and it should be here in a week. Were going to put front and rear racks on her Gary Fisher and she'll use it for commuting and such and ride the roadie when we go out on rides etc.

That area is the most bike friendly in Atlanta. It is nice how many people are out on bikes on the weekends ;)

Hah I've been down to Atlanta a few times (strictly to go clubbing) That city having a bike trail for some reason surprises me. LoL It sounds like you all had though! That rocks.

The area that he mentions is the only bike friendly part of town. There are paths around the parks in that area, and the Carter Center. Downtown, or anywhere else, is ****ing terrible for bikes. Its a nightmare.

I think I might check out that trail before it gets too cold.

haha that figures...I mean downtown there was a Cop in every gas station...then we found a club that wasn't full of gangster thugs and had ourselves a good time

Yeah, I don't know anything about the rest of Atlanta, but the area we were in was awesome. So many bikes everywhere, it was inspiring.

Did you notice that >90% of the cyclists in L5P don't wear helmets and many ride on the wrong side of the road or zig-zag all over the road. I'm all for cycling but obey the rules of the road.

Did you stop by Outback Bicycles and talk with Peter (the owner)? He doesn't wear shorts or cycling clothes at work, he wears a kilt. ;)

yeah we stopped by Outback as well as Atlanta Pro Bicycling and the Silver Comet Depot place. Unfortunately I saw no one with a kilt.
Yeah there were some cyclist that weren't wearing helmets. I don't think I paid very much attention to what everyone was doing as I was in awe. But I definitely agree about obeying the rules of the road.
