I don't know that anybody still makes them, but I've taken them OFF several bikes, and based on that, they'd be easy to put on. The bosses are already there, at least on my bikes. Should be a straight bolt-on in place of the housing stop or whatever's on there now
Come to think of it, I don't even know if anybody makes new DT shifters, but there are millions of bikes out there that came with them.

Nashbar still makes their aluminum frame with the bosses on there for DT shifters. Ebay would be a good place to look as well, unless your looking only for new bikes. The Nash-bikes have really fubar geometry though....IMHO. And, as far as I know, Shimano still makes down tube shifters for Dura-Ace...ten speed. If your running nine speed, they can be found (also DA) but you'll have to look around a bit, maybe even used. Hope that helps!

I also believe the Surly Long Haul Trucker will accept DT shifters, although bar-end shifters are more often seen on that bike.

I just bought one of these off of the BD site:

https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...e_xi_steel.htm

It looks like a pretty good butted 4130 steel frame, and lighter than I expected to be (subjective opinion, as I currently have no way to weight it). It comes equipped with a mix of SunRace and Microshift components, but the other stuff on it appear to be pretty decent. You could buy one of these and then, as time and budget permits, upgrade components on your own schedule.

came in here to post this.

When I went to buy my Felt F5, I almost lost my focus and bought the Allez Steel instead. The coolness factor was hard to ignore.

Am I reading this right? A brand new Specialized ( a good brand right?) complete road bike for $610. What's the catch? Thats as cheap as cheap BD bikes.

I have DT shifters on my 1200 Trek. Very solid shifting but you have to get used to keeping the bike straight while taking a hand off the bars to shift.

What? The downtube shifting bikesdirect bike starts at $300 (or half the price of the Specialized).

You can still get Dura Ace 9sp DT shifters. Just google them. I am pretty sure they still have a friction mode so they should work on any system.

Then there is this one. https://silvercycles.com/product/fuji...ur-52940-1.htm. I think it's on clearance sale. Also there is almost the same one, but has more lugs. https://ecyclingshop.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=114

Someone who rides a 60 cm frame and wants down-tube shifters
need be really flexible .. (& young)
to reach down to them so often..

As I got older, reaching down, for gear changes, got old too..

Well, I'm 58 with a fair-sized safety belly bag (like an airbag but always inflated), and my BD Motobecane Mirage is a 61cm frame. It's a reach, I admit, but I figure it makes me be a little more deliberate in my shifting.

my father in law is 62, he doesn't own a bike with STI shifters. He has 2 or 3 with DT shifters and 1 with Bar-Ends...

You are not old enough. If you were, you would be willing to do anything to shift down, even if you had to reach the bottom bracket

hahahahahaha well im 6'4" ive got long arms, im on a size 58 frame so the reach is nothing, i dont think for me a 60cm frame would be much worse but im only 19 so i shouldnt have a problem, i know the masi randonneur comes with dura ace dts its a beautiful bike but it weighs a lot so it would be for a work commute or local ride into town

I like masi a lot ever since i was a kid i was mesmerized my by dads bike, i just didnt know until a few days ago they make a bike with dts but im in the market for a lighter weight bike first, then comes this one...so maybe next year

My surly LHT is a 60 cm and I use cheap DT shifters . I'm 29 though, so I don't know if I count.

I was just going to add: you can find DT shifters everywhere -- tons of old bikes with them out there. I just use them because they require extremely short pieces of cable and very little housing ... lazy. It's not because I actually prefer them over other shifters.

Unless you are racing, weight is overrated. I have both a light rando bike and a heavy touring bike. Love them both, but for comfort (let alone carrying capacity) the touring bike wins.

The Allez steel double's actually up to $730 now.
https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...01&scname=Road

Still not too bad a deal. Even lowend Shimano brifters cost a pretty penny and many people are willing to shell out the premium for them, that's why DT shifter bikes are a little less.
