broken collar bone (or clavical).
So the story is that I was coming home from school (and I was riding on the sidewalk that day, I alternate), and when i was passing in front of a drive way in typical moron who can't drive fashion a man stops in the middle of the sidewalk before checking for pedestrians (or cyclists). I had to stop (obviously) so I slammed on my brakes (only having a front brake and going over 20 mph didn't help either) and flipped over my bars onto my shoulder breaking my collar bone. I didn't know it at the time and after sitting for about two minutes i walked home with my front wheel rubbing the breaks.
Anyone have a similar story? What'd you do to cope with not being able to do anything ? |
No, but then again I don't ride 20mph on a sidewalk. Personally I think that's idiotic.

broken collarbones are a rite of passage , 20 mph on the sidewalk is daft , try not to do that again .
when I'm on the sidewalk its not much more than a easy joggers pace. My collar bone break was high-siding a down hill corner and going off the pavement. I was like 12 , and JFK was still alive. |

Both times I went to work, walked the dog, paid bills. Pretty much everything I kind of normally do except use the one arm and bicycle.

I broke a collar bone, once. Compared to the fractures of the pelvis at the same time, it was definately small change.

I broke my collarbone the morning of Halloween on a charity night ride. The only real problem I had was sleeping, I just couldn't get comfortable with the type of sling I wore. Later that evening at my girlfriend's we went trick or treating, she with her son and I with a neighbor's daughter and that's when I discovered I'd also cracked a bone in my ankle. :(
