Lab

I am so sorry, but I just have to share this. I have been working on this consulting gig in downtown DC. I kept noticing people wheeling their bikes into the building without a problem. I took this as a great omen since I am a fairweather commuter. Well as I was heading down in the elevator this afternoon, it stopped on the 8th floor. I look up at the person getting on, and just behind him I notice the the words League of American Bicyclists on the Door. The guy notices my smile, we chat on the way to the lobby, and then he proceeds to invite me to check out their office. I am soooo excited. First I am working in a building that is bike friendly, I see so many bike commuters around, and I am only one floor above one of the organizations that does a lot of the work that makes it safer (angry motorists notwithstanding) for me to commute. Short of winning a million dollars my day couldn't get any better.

kewl. Nice to know LAB is still going strong.
You commuting from Reston to DC? impressive.

Oh no. I used to work in Reston and was trying to figure out a safe route from Springfield to reston. It didn't work out, but for the last 6 months or so I have been working in DC, so I rented a bike locker from Metro and commute to the train station. It makes the day go that much better.

Hey so DC proper is bike friendly, too, huh? I was in Arlington this week, and there were commuters all over the place, and there were places to lock up a bike all over the place too. It looked pretty cool.

Do you have any idea if there is a reasonable way to get a bike across the Potomac? Like can you ride a bike over any of the bridges?

If I move down there my office will be in DC, but it looks like there are many better bike routes in VA. VA's ease of access to many good bike routes is making me think I should look for a place to stay outside of the District.

You could take the WOD to the MT Vernon trail and come across the 14th (I think) street bridge. You could also take the WOD all the way into Rosslyn and then into the city. I think there are a lot of ways to do it if you are so inclined.

Personally, I liked them back when they were 'LAW'-- League of American Wheelmen. Political correctness aside, they had a much more bad-ass rep back in the 90's.

I commute to DC from Arlington every day I usually take the Roosevelt Bridge but the Key Bridge works and I take that sometimes too. For more info check out the Washington Area Bike Association's website - http://www.waba.org.

Hey cool link. Man it's great to see all these online resources for biking and commuting in the area.

Memorial Bridge has a wide "sidewalk" that I've seen cyclists on from
time to time (like I've never done that).
I think the only one that I wouldn't use is the 14th street bridge (bad memories
of that one).
DC/Arlington/Alexandria is very bicycle friendly town.
