Yes...Other than fact I love the sensation of taking long rides; I recall how quickly I lost fitness in my legs after my injury in the Spring of last year..
Basically, two months, I should not have riden at all..I did disobey my doctor after about one month and initially rode on my trainer.. A little later, mild rides close to home..I take that back..Considering the time HMO's take to approve surgery and other delays, I should have been off my bike four months..I did not. But, probably - No serious riding for four months..I was besides myself with boredom.
Nothing serious...My legs got flabby pronto...I hate that...
I can't run...Not a gym person...Find gym equiptment boring.
Just is not the same as riding the crest of a favorite ridge.. Guess, if I value my fitness for touring, I must get over this...But, biking is my thing...Can you imagine the shame - worse than flabby flesh ozzing from your hamstrings..
Other factors that make you fanatic about getting out X number of times per week...?
Guess that is mine. If I don't get in those X number of times per week, I am pretty grumpy.

The fact that I come here after getting faced at a party and trying to answer questions - that's love]]

cryogenic 10-30-04 01:27 AM

absolutely... Getting hammered at a party and then coming home to get on bikeforums is some serious love for the sport.. I'm impressed (then again, I'd probably do the same).

'preciate the love :D I'm pretty bent at the moment. -listening to Alice Cooper's "Welcome to my Nightmare' I'm not falling down trashed but I'll have some cleaning to do here in the Am

cyclezealot 10-30-04 02:21 AM

Raiyn.. Getting trashed every once in awhile is good therapy, I feel...Kills out some of the brain cells just sittin there collecting cob webs...Good luck in the AM...Little house cleaning...But, love of the sport is a little delayed should a hangover cause the clinking of the chain to be too much noise...

AHHH a 20 oz water bottle w/ some Ultima and a i'll be straight. Won't be getting up till the crack of 2 but who cares - it's not like it's an everyday deal or that I gotta work tomorrow 'cept at home (gotta zap my better half's bike with some Frame Saver)

cryogenic 10-30-04 02:29 AM

Does anyone else here get antsy and bored if you sit around doing nothing for a decent period of time. When I get really bored, I just feel like going out for a ride somewhere instead of just sitting around looking stupid. :p

Sometimes it's better for humanity that I stay put.:D

I'm pretty nice when I'm trashed - but DON'T get me angry - you wouldn't like me when I'm angry. :D

cryogenic 10-30-04 03:41 AM

OK, how about when you're NOT drunk? Do you ever get antsy and just jump on the bike and go ride for no apparent reason?

cyclezealot 10-30-04 08:47 AM

For most of us Cryogenic, is it just Not a part of our daily routine, like having breakfast? Or other planned stuff..At least, if our work life allows.
Another point...Some have suggested it would be Cool to be a messanger...Ride all the time...Get to do trick riding in traffic..Fun..
But, at work we employ divers for our tanks...They dive every day...It gets to be just work.. I can't imagine that, or do I want to...These divers started out like rec.divers like all of us...You get to literally thousands and thousands of dives, you get to think it old..One diver's girlfriend got interested into scuba diving. Now she wants to go on dive vacations..Her boyfriend is having a difficult time with that relationship- now that she is a scuba fanatic...
So, a way to get over a fanatic is do it too much.

catatonic 10-30-04 01:34 PM

lets put it this way, if I dont get a good ride inm i get cranky...and you dont want to see me cranky....well that or a i get hyper and automagically annoy everyone in a 300 mile radius.

If you live in this region of california, and suddenly feel annoyed for no reason...I prolly went into one of my hyper kicks....sorry.

cyclezealot 10-30-04 01:46 PM

Wonder if today I should ride...For two days now, I have felt a tight muscle in the upper back of my right calf...Did not do it biking...Feel asleep on the couch with my leg extended in an odd upward direction...Pretty sure that is how it happened...Sort of annoying.
After the rain, I want a ride, because today is a beautiful Southern California October day...low 70's and beautiful sun...I need to get out..Did yesterday in spite of the tightness in my calf.....Did not seem to make it any worse...
In fact I have campaign stuff to do for the election, for a friend...Thought I would encorporate my bike in literature drops for this friend...With the bike, have to pick a neighborhood about 10 miles away, before I do this..

LapDog 10-30-04 05:49 PM

You guys must be young. Getting trashed and then keeping a decent 20mph pace for 50 miles the next day has become way beyond my capabilities. What makes you a fanatic is knowing the above is true and then going out every time and trying to do it anyway!

cyclezealot 10-30-04 08:23 PM

Didn't go to the furthest neighborhood to help my acquaintence Mike who is running for Congress..But, I did do my 14 miles and got out about 50 pieces of his literature- even tho. my left knee/calf is stiff...Like knotted when I bend it too far up flexing the muscle.....Did not hurt much while riding.. But, I had to get out Mike's literature before Tuesday, and what is the difference between walking and riding..Riding faster.
54 miles yesterday doing errands and 14 today for the election...

Fugazi Dave 10-30-04 11:45 PM

The fact that I park my bike leaned up against my bed because it tends to mean I dream about cycling more.

cryogenic 10-31-04 03:56 AM

wow... I think you may just win, man... I did get antsy tonight around 3am and go for a 12-14 mile ride for fun and enjoyed it quite a bit... I'm not even really tired or anything and I actually feel 20 times better and more productive than if I had just sat here on my computer.

HereNT 10-31-04 07:57 AM

I'm with Fugazi Dave - my bike is the last thing I see when I fall asleep, and the first thing when I wake up. I go to work with grease stains all the time. My life has nothing but the bike. I don't know if it would be better if there were something more.

scroz 10-31-04 08:07 AM

I think there may be something wrong with all of us.... :p

Yes, there is....our jobs get in the way of more riding.

cyclezealot 10-31-04 10:11 AM

If my life were strictly limited to work and biking..I would feel cheated, because I am content with my life..My wife tolerates my biking...She will not make a serious attempt at cycling...Hate going on tours w/o her..
But for those w/o a significant other in your lives, which is many, many of us- biking would make life better. Should you find like bike clubs-that is where you might find friends or significant others who are into your thing.

Maelstrom 10-31-04 10:43 AM

I love cycling. The community, the activity, the building and maintaining of trails. I love bmx, mtbike of all aspects. I love it even more now that my gf has the bug and trys to ride with me, goes up and down the mountain and we have no discussed moving to a permanent location where we can continue this lifestyle with future children. Not much brings me joy like a good ride or a little progression. At night I dream of riding, at work, I want to be riding, when I am at home, I watch biking vids, playing biking video games or build/repair/clean my bikes.

Its an addiction :)

ajkloss42 10-31-04 11:42 AM

I'm not a fanatic. Four bikes isn't that many. Wanting four more is normal. Lots of people tow four cases of beer. I hardly ever spend more than four hours on a bike at a time. Normal.

cyclezealot 10-31-04 12:05 PM

Four cases of beer..Wow...That is more fanatic than biking four hours...I assume you are not going to drink it all yourself..What is the poundage of four cases...On a trailer , I presume..
