New Saddles at the LBS?
Has anyone ever found a great saddle at their LBS? I mean like one that is in stock. I sure would like to replace my saddle before Sunday and wonder if I could find something good at the LBS. I can afford to spend a little bit, my tax refund --although not extraordinary -- is enough to buy a new saddle.

You can buy a new saddle. It may be good (for you). It may not. If you're having saddle problems find an LBS or one of the higher-end chains that offers a return policy or has loaner saddles; yes, you'll pay somewhat more, but at least you'll have a shot at finding a saddle. If you're not bike weight obsessed you could consider one of the leather saddles (Brooks, Selle An-atomica, etc.) which are more adjustable and serve many long distance riders well, but be prepared for snickers from your roadie friends.

Some LBSs sell Brooks saddles.

MTB V-series saddles are good.

I have seen lots of saddles at the LBS's. Unfortunately, I have never found the one I was looking for WHEN I was looking for it.

I started looking at saddles on line. I won't get to the LBS until this weekend. What are the "springs" for shown under some of the saddles? Are they like shock absorbers?

I ride on a Zefal gel from Walmart. 50+ miles a day and
my butt is happy! $20, and they look good as well. http://www.amazon.com/Zefal-5627-Tru.../dp/B0040QCE7M |

Sprung saddles are good for upright bikes. If your handlebars are near parallel with the seat, I would not consider one.
