I exceeded my mileage goal for April by 15%. Commuted every workday, got in at least one club ride every week.

I jsut dont wanna freeze them off. it was 34-38 degrees this morning. I still dont beleive in fenders.

How can this be? It was almost "too hot" to ride in LA yesterday...:D

Because you yuppies in LA complain it's "too hot" when you can see the sun through the smog and you sweat a little bit trying to drink your lattes. My preferred environment is an active volcano! (It's 60 degrees outside and I'm wearing two coats...)

Not really, as long as I can stay warm, and I usually can, I'm happy

Dean7 05-06-11 01:21 AM

Some of my best rides have been in the rain. Get some rain gear and go insane.

I agree that we are all capable of riding in the rain. That doesn't help all the folks who are negetively impacted financialy by our copious amounts of precipitation though.

Here's an example where our state tourism is taking an early hit. Granted it is a small hit at this point but in these difficult economic times every penny counts.

That's almost three quarters of the canalway that is still closed!! If I understand this correctly, early voyagers coming up the inland waterway have no way into the Great Lakes now unless they choose to continue north to the Gulf of St Lawarence. How many economies other than N.Y.'s are being impacted now?

On a positive note though...things are finally starting to dry out some and the predicted temps. for the next week look to be at or near normal. :)

YES YES YES...J.P. Is it ever gonna stop?
The weather forecast (are they ever right?) for this weekend is dry and sunny Ditto for next weeek.
I'll believe it when I see it.
Last year this time I was closing in on 700 miles of riding.
This year..haven't cracked 150

Raining again today (Saturday)!!!!! :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I had planned to go out for a ride too.

I rode to the health club last night and got rained on, on the way back! :notamused::notamused:

Looks like it might clear a bit later so maybe I will be able to still get in a ride today.

So. .. what's that big boat for, Noah?

Should I feel bad that I get satisfaction from hearing of others suffering? On the Oregon Coast, I just read in the paper we had the coldest, wettest winter on record. When it's sunny in the rest of the pacific northwest, we often are under an oppresive marine layer.

Some local landmarks:
Cape Disappointment
Cape Foulweather
Dismal Nitch

Oregon apparently wasn't settled by optimists :)

I am with you, sick of the rain here in Pittsburgh and on the only two decent days this past month I have not been able to get free of other commitments so missed riding. Two weeks ago I just went out and rode in the rain anyway and enjoyed it enough to go out on a couple more rainy days too. I just built up a new Fargo that has been itching to get out of the stable so had to do something!

I am a newbie, but he crew around here hipped me enough to get a "beater" bike for bad weather.. Bring on the rain.. My rust bucket beater bike takes in in style...Here it with rain coat in the back. It stopped raining for an hour...;)

I'm tired of the rain. I still commute in it, it's just hard to get motivated for an extra 5-30 miles when it might go from sunny one minute to the kind of storm that would turn my three hour tour into a 3 season sitcom...

Schadenfreude: that's what stairs are for.

Awesome beater man.

Anyway, how much rain do you guys get? I live in Oregon and we get quite a bit of rain (in fact a ton of people move to Portland only to complain about the rain... drives me nuts!).

EDIT: I only ask because from my perspective the rain we get here in Portland is totally manageable. It doesn't bother me at all. I commuted my first winter through hail, rain and snow with no fenders and **** for gear (I didn't even have gloves... I just did my commute, showed up to work with hands that were numb, washed them in warm water despite intense pain, went on about my day).

____asdfghjkl 05-12-11 12:02 AM

Yes, I'm sick of rain. Mostly when the weatherman tells me something wrong. :(
My feet get soggy. I don't have cycling shoes.
I still ride in it.

Then again I hate it when it gets too hot.
