Nightshade, the pedals are called "Clipless" because the cages that go around your feet with straps are called "Toe Clips". Clipless pedals might seem dangerous to people who haven't learned to use them. Usually you fall down once or twice when you're learning, just like learning to ride a bike. It takes a fraction of a second to clip out of them.

And if you are actually falling...that fraction of a second will seem forever :P

That first really bad fall or accident that could have been avoided if clip in's or toe clips were not involved.

I firmly believe that clip in's and toe clips belong on the racing bicycles not the street bicycles.

Well I firmly believe...to each his own.

In the context of this threat, the OP already is familiar with clipless pedals, not deciding if he should use them.
