Paint Removal?

So I just picked up a new road frame off ebay and when I recieved it, the fork had been rattle canned. The seller assures me that the fork is original and intact but I'd like to take the paint off just to be sure.

The reason I'm posting this is because the fork is allegedly carbon, and I don't know if taking paint thinner to it would damage the clear coat over the carbon weave?

Does anyone know how best to go about this?

Thanks in advance!

it depends on what kind of clear coat was used.

I would try to contact the manufacturer. One possible story line is that vandals spray painted it, and you want to get it off, if you don't feel comfortable with telling you bought it off ebay.
