I'm literally like 6 houses down the street from my house, trying to beat this massive storm we're getting, biking as hard as i can to not fall over from the wind blowing in my face, then the sky unleashes and i'm getting pounded with rain. I couldn't see a foot in front of me, for about 30 seconds until i got home. Everything is SOAKED. By far the scariest moment of my life. I was certain i was going to get picked up and thrown by a tornado haha. Anybody else get completely caught off guard by rain before?

I'm more weather cautious now but last year I was riding to work, it was morning and still dark. I thought I was gonna beat the storm to work but it got me and did the same as with you, pounded me! I rode a mountain bike with slicks and the tires just sliced right through the puddles with no resisitance. I did like that.
Nowadays I don't mind riding in the rain as long as it's warm. i don't do cold rain at all and wil drive in to work.

haha your story makes me feel like a little girl..i will say that the rain smashing into your face and covering your glasses does indeed suck. i'm glad you survived that ride though, sounds pretty intense haha today was my first real taste of "riding" in a bad storm, it lasted a mere minute and a half, tops haha

First time, a year ago, I was not ready for it. The temp
dropped and I was in major distress by the time I got
home.

Friday I went out knowing it might rain and I rode as hard
as I could and then turned to home like a man possessed.
I did twenty miles in fifty five minutes. And got wet right
at the end of the ride, less than a block!

Today I went out knowing it might rain and got caught
at the turn around spot. Ten miles out and rode in hard
rain all the way home, but it was warm so no big deal.
It was a bit gusty at time.
You can only get so wet, then in don't matter.

Make sure you have good lights even if you don't ride
at night. I had all the flashers going today, front and back.

A couple of Saturdays ago I was out in the afternoon on a windy but sunny ride. Off in the west it looked slightly grey in the distance. I wasn’t worried so I kept heading south thinking I would have plenty of time to finish my ride and turn around north towards home. I made a jog to the east and looked into my mirror and saw the sky had turned completely dark behind me. I was already past the point of no return and knew I wasn't going to make it home in time. So I pedaled like crazy towards a city park that I knew had shelter. The wind was blowing in fast swirls as it altered directions it was going from hot to cold. I also passed a cop in his car who yelled out “Pedal!” I didn’t need much motivation at this point. I just made it to the lee side of a building in the park when big thick rain drops started to fall. I waited it out for a half hour while the wind blew around the building at 30 mph with rain and debris going everywhere. During a clear spot in the storm I rode home through huge puddles. Exhilarating experience, but not much bike fun.

I was riding down into Denver last year and ran into a friend. Nasty black clouds were rolling in and we live a few blocks apart so I rode back with him. It started raining and the lightning started. We heard a bolt of lightning hit very close and my friend received a jolt through his brifter. The path we were on has high voltage power lines paralleling it as well. We took off in a sprint to an overpass and waited the lovely rain and lightning storm out with a few other cyclists.

I do not like riding in the rain.

I have learned to be very cautious when I have to as the road surface can turn treacherous. Manhole covers and white stripes become as slick as ice and it's easy to lose your upright status very, very quickly.

Years ago I was heading back to the house and it started to rain a few blocks out. I picked up the pace and came flying into the final turn. I didn't take into account the way the asphalt changed from medium texture to coarse as it began my home block and my front wheel washed out and I fell heavily onto my left side mashing my face into the near chipseal of the street. Picked up the bike and rolled it the final 50 meters or so to the house. I was fine until I looked in the mirror and saw the damage I'd done. This was in the days before helmets so I had these flaps of skin hanging off my left forehead. Ugly. Nearly fainted.

i'm SO thankful that i wasn't out in the storm we just got hit with. the hail was incredible. my car has a few dents on it now :\ no big deal though, i'm alive and well! i was hanging out in my neighbor's basement while the sirens were going off. scary stuff. dumb weather..
