Looking at kickstand styles
 

So my bike has this

Which eventually fell off, and I have to find a wrench to put it back on. However I saw this:

Which looks interesting. I haven't seen any like that, though, and have no idea how well they work. Thoughts?

Dutch and China and other places where bikes are not toys use those.

your bike frame if designed properly the 1st place,
would have had a Kick Stand Mounting plate,
and sold with it installed.

If your bike wasn't designed around that particular stand I wouldn't bet on it just bolting up and working.

Yes, that's a proper kickstand. For one thing you can roll the bike backward with it down and the cranks don't lock up in it. Useful if you store the bike in a tight slot.

From the picture I'd think about upgrading the bike, not the kickstand. At least take some steel wool and clean the rust off the rims.

If properly designed bikes have kickstand plates and kickstand installed, I hope I never have to ride a properly designed bike.

I have this stand finding it to be very robust.

He forgot the caveat: if city or townie bike. In that case, kickstands are useful.

I'm going out on a limb and gonna say most folks wouldn't want a kickstand plate and kickstand on their mtb or road bike if using them for their intended purpose.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a kickstand mounting plate on a mountain bike. Nothing wrong with keeping the option (lots of mtb city conversions around), and not enough weight or obstruction for me to make any argument against it.

Since I ride my mountain bike to a from the trails I ride having a kickstand mounted could be useful IF it doesn't rattle or move/drop while I'm riding.
