Shoe Fit Question
I know this subject has been beat to death but I have a question about clipless shoe fit.
I have big feet and have never been able to find a pair of shoes that fit. However, when I was browsing Zappos the other day, I saw a pair of Shimanos that are available in wide width (I had already tried Lake, Sidi, and Specialized but wasn't happy with the fit from those). Because of Zappos return policy, I ordered two pairs, 49 Wide and 50 Wide. When wearing the 49s, I can ever so slightly feel the end of the toe box on the outside of my foot. The 50s are a bit big with about a thumbs width between my big toe and the end of the toe box. In both shoes, my foot fits nicely with no wiggle. The only issue is the length. I know in fitting normal shoes that about a thumbs width of room is advisable but is this really appropriate in cycling shoes? Should I deal with the extra length of the 50s or give up on clipless shoes? Thanks for your comments. |
Seems to me it would be fine as long as there's no wiggle & you are comfortable.

+ adding an arch support insole [I usually do] takes up some room in the shoe.

Thanks, guys. I went with the 50s. On a short 6 mile test ride this afternoon, no issues at all other than tipping over at the end of my driveway into a bush :o. No wiggle at all or hot spots.
I felt a bit of fatigue in fact as I was using my legs much more since I can now put more power into the pedals through the whole cycle. |
