I make sure after my ride (Within 10 mins) i drink "Outside Sport-Ultimate Recovery Orange with OJ" or just plain olde fashion Cold chocolate milk!!!!
Keeps me from getting sore and keeps me going so I can work on that "Honey Dew List" that my wife nags me about!

Before they got all exited about the alchohol content and reformulated it last year it was kombucha tea. My legs always felt better the next morning after a hot century.
Now it does not seem to work, its overpasturized or something.
Gatorade is just to sweet for me, but sometimes I water it down when on tour and there is little else. Once on a 90 some degree day I stopped at a gas station during a 140 mile ride. bought a half gallon of OJ and grabbed some salt packets, sat outside and sweated while drinking it. watched at least six people stop, get out of their air conditioned cars and come out of the store with a bunch of sport drinks. They were all kind of overweight(as am I, a bit). Since then I avoid bottled sport drinks whenever possible.
For endurance on a hot 20+ mile ride I make my own glop with Agave nector, lemon, salt, some powdered cayanne pepper and some sort of fruit juice. freeze it the night before in a waterbottle. other than that just water on the bike, and a gallon or so more at home over the course of a few hours.

A tall glass of moo has like 18 g of protein in it already. I used to add a scoop of powdered milk, which would raise it to more like 30 g.
But now I keep a bunch of laying hens, so I have as many egg white omelets as I need to keep my protein up around 0.6-0.7 g/lb of body weight.

Age makes a difference. I think the older rider needs to recover with an emphasis on both electrolytes and anti oxidant ingredients.
