My wife and I ride GT Nomads, usually with a burley and baby in tow. We typically stick to bike paths, however, I'm starting to use the bike for short commutes and plan to get a rack and some baskets or saddle bags.

Anyway, I got caught in a thunderstorm the other day and the performance of the OEM Tektro's suffered. I spottted these Kool Stops and I like them (they remind me of some Ritcheys I had on my old Trek 7000 MTB). However, I see a review claiming they don't fit 700 tires, but I've never heard of "29er" MTB brake pads or 700 cyclocross pads, etc. Is it safe to assume the guy claiming they won't fit 700s is full of BS?

Any comments on performance? Would it also be safe to assume that claims of awesome braking power barely using one finger are also BS? I don't want to accidentally lock up the tires with baby in tow.

Why not get the road version? Or even the mixed version. I wouldn't say they are better in the dry compared to the standard black brake pads but they are nicer to the braking surface at the expense of faster brake pad wear.

New brake pads work better than pads that are several years old as they get hard and don't grip as well. The kool stops are the best for stopping power over the stock pads. And I would sell these over Shimano because of how well they work and even more reason to have them is your child's safety. Sure if you grab a fist full of brakes something will happen but know your brakes both front and back and you should be fine. The first time out don't grab the brakes like you do with the old ones and you will be fine if installed properly.

They fit 700s; I have them on my Diamondback Insight hybrid. However, check that you have enough brake clearance for the rather thick pads to fit your *calipers*. They were designed with V-brakes in mind.

The issue with the particular model of pad to which you linked is that they are curved to suit a 26" MTB rim. As the first review I read states, the curvature is not really suited to a 700 rim, although the reviewer has persisted with using them on his 700C equipped road bike.

There are plenty of other Koolstop pads in their Thinline range that aren't as aggressively curved. The salmon colour is regarded as the best compound for wet weather.

I have V-type brakes (the GT Nomad is a "comfort" bike). I'll look into the Kool-Stop Thinline.
