Pedal Question
I am trying to find a nice pair of toe clippable pedals to put on my Cannondale Quick Hybrid. After reading reviews, it appears as though MKS and Velo Orange have some of the best pedals choices, however, what is the difference between track, road and touring pedals? It appears track and road are basically the same platform size, with the road pedal having some extra width, the touring appear to be even wider.
My primary riding is fitness and rail trail riding. I assume a track or road pedal would work fine. Anybody have any suggestions on specific pedals, I don't want clipless at this point, maybe in the future. |
wellgo bmx platform pedals.

The track pedals are narrow, to avoid pedal strike on a fixed gear. I don't know about the Velo Orange ones, but the MKS road pedals have a little spike sticking up on the outside of the pedal. I imagine this is supposed to go alongside your shoe and help keep your feet in place, but when I used them it just stabbed me in the foot (I do have enormous duck feet, so your mileage may vary). The MKS road pedal is also one-sided, so I wouldn't recommend them if you're not using toe clips. I'm currently using the MKS touring pedals, and they are excellent. My only (minor) complaint is the lack of a flip tab, which only matters with toe clips (and even then, it's not a big deal).

I only ride SPDs. The small performance hit from the shoe is well worth the comfort gain when walking. I just got in a pair of Shimano PD-A250 pedals I am dying to try. They come with an integrated platform.

The MKS Sylvian Touring has a nice wide cage, toe-clip compatible, easy to service and very durable. I cant see the point of paying more.

Thanks for the replys. I think I may try a pair of the MKS Touring. I have a tough time making decision, who knows a trip to the LBS and maybe it will be the SPDs.
