A beach cruiser should be simple. Coaster brake, fat tires, upright seating. Baskets are nice. The old Schwinn is still the best. The Cantilever frame was a classic design. Most other attempts do not have the proportions. End up looking cheap, even at $2,500.00
A beach cruiser is going to ridden whilst drunk. It's going to fall over in the sand. It'll be locked up out of sight for hours. Maintenance will be indifferent. Going to be ridden up and down curbs. Take these factors into consideration.
Building me a Varsity- framed cruiser that take the above into account. Will post pictures when it's done.

bikes direct has this https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/Mango/toucan3.htm for $395. Internal 3speed shifter seems a bit over the top for the beach. I agree a nice coaster brake is ideal
maybe one of these bikes? https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/city_bikes.htm

Beach cruisers are essentially worthless the first day you take them on the beach. It's best to "find" them.
And looking at the post below this as I type I agree: Electra is not bad. Love that laid back style...

How are you getting it to the beach? How will you store it when you are not riding it. If you are driving, consider a folding bike which would fit easily within your car. Post on the folding bike board advice from experts.

Bike ≠ Car ≠ Ped.
If not an Electra, then one of those Mango Toucans from BD. They seem to skirt around Electra's "Flat Foot Technology" trademark, too.
My wife's Townie seems like just the thing for poking around a beachfront settlement. It gets bonus points for being able to sit on it like a bar stool.

Worksman will build you a Cruiser then ship it to your home. These bikes are pure old school steel Cruisers so they will last.

I own a Worksman Crusier that I ride everyday. It's smooth and comfy...........

I like the Worksmans! The base cruiser is a better looking looking bike than the $2,500.00 foo-foo bike mentioned earlier.
Here is a picture of my Schwinn Jaguar cruiser. Found a frame, fork and crank on C-list. Picked up a GT mountain bike with a busted bottom bracket that some clot had broken by hammering on the crank to remove it. Took the pile o' parts I had and here's the result. Though it broke my own rule about having a coaster brake, the V-brakes and 7 speed MTB cluster came in handy. The low bars looked cool and distinctive. Since the stem was fairly tall, the riding position was still somewhat upright.

Bike worked very good. Sold it to a guy who just had to have it. Turned a decent profit.
